HEDGESVILLE — Hedgesville High School had its annual mock interviews on Friday, where 11th-grade students got real world practice on how to answer questions, prepare a resume and dress professionally.

Business professionals throughout the community came to interview students and give them advice as they work to reach their goals. This is organized at every high school in Berkeley County to prepare students for future jobs and scholarship interviews as they get ready to graduate.

Hedgesville High School 11th-grade teacher Jenifer Kisner prepared her students for the mock interview. She taught them how to write a resume and how an interview differs from a normal conversation. By giving them practice questions and teaching them to think about what they’ve accomplished, she hopes students will get the experience they need for the real thing.

“The county has done this since I’ve started teaching here,” Kisner said. “It’s one of the most viable things we do. It prepares them for the real world.”

Kisner shared that her favorite part about the mock interviews is seeing a glimpse of who the students will be as adults. She hopes that through this experience, students will realize that they can accomplish great things after high school.

“For a lot of students, creating their resume was the first time they started thinking about what they’ve done,” Kisner said. “Some realize they should try signing up for some other things during their senior year. Some see the value in all the things they are currently doing.”
