Berkeley County Schools highlighted five students in the Work Exploration program throughout January, focusing on their hard work and dedication as they learn about different businesses and careers in the community.
The Work Exploration program gives students the chance to get real experience in the workplace and helps them decide what they want to do after graduation.
Jayden Cardwell, from Spring Mills High School, is in her third year in the program and has had the opportunity to work with many different people. She currently works at the Spring Mills McDonald’s. According to her bio, Cardwell earns a lot of praise from customers as she works hard to get them their food.
Josiah Wilson, from Musselman High School, is also in his third year in the program. He’s had the chance to work at Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Jersey Mike’s and Food Lion in Inwood, where he is currently working.
Known as one of the most outgoing students at Musselman, according to his bio, Wilson is always ready to welcome customers and helps create a bright and positive atmosphere.
Hedgesville High School highlighted Zoe Jones in January. This school year, Jones worked at Berkeley Plaza Theatre, where she helped with concessions. She is currently working at Kitchen’s Farm Market, completing many different tasks throughout the day. She is dedicated and works hard whenever she takes on a new challenge.
“Zoe’s positive attitude and incredible growth mindset set her apart,” Berkeley County Schools said in her bio. “She consistently sets high goals for herself and is always eager to tackle any challenge. Any employer would be fortunate to have Zoe on their team.”
Martinsburg High School highlighted two students in January, Joseph Osborne and Shayma Ajaj.
Osborne is known for always being willing to help out when a co-worker calls out sick. His positive attitude makes a difference in the workplace environment.
“Joseph brings a sense of joy to the workplace,” Berkeley County Schools said in Osborne’s bio. “His signature farewell — ‘peace out’ — never fails to bring a smile to his co-workers’ faces. With his strong work ethic and uplifting presence, Joseph makes every work environment better.”
Meanwhile, Ajaj is known for her positive attitude and strong work ethic. She’s described as a natural leader and role model for others. According to her bio, she is patient and willing to help others and show them how to complete certain tasks.
