3rd Grade
1st Quarter
Students will begin to establish a repertoire of tunes as well as tonal and rhythm vocabulary that can be used to breakdown and analyze music.
2nd Quarter
Students will use tonal and rhythm vocabulary and syllables to begin to identify Tonic and Dominant Functions and Duple and Triple meters in music.
3rd Quarter
Students will learn to work together as a vocal performance group, and put on a concert together establishing a deep understanding of chosen repertoire.
4th Quarter
Students will learn about different instruments and learn how to play them including: Trumpet, Trombone, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Piano, and Percussion.
4th Grade
1st Quarter
Students will review and continue to develop a repertoire of tunes. Students will be able to identify meter, tonality, and tonic and dominant function within simple tunes aurally.
2nd Quarter
Students will use tonal patterns, rhythm patterns, and learned repertoire to develop music reading skills.
3rd Quarter
Students will learn to write rhythm and tonal patterns they hear and sing. Students will also create their own tonal and rhythm patterns.
4th Quarter
Students will break down tunes they know into fundamental rhythm and tonal functions and recompose them. Students will also explore modulations and secondary functions.
5th Grade
1st Quarter
Students will review and continue to develop tune repertoire, as well as Tonic and Dominant Functions; Duple and Triple Meter; Macrobeats and Microbeats
2nd Quarter
Students will be able to identify aurally: Tonic, Dominant, and Subdominant Functions; Duple and Triple Meters; Macrobeats, Microbeats, and Divisions; Major and Minor tonality.
3rd Quarter
Students will be able to identify aurally and visually in music all music functions from 2nd quarter, as well as begin to write patterns and short tunes. Students will begin to explore other keys
4th Quarter
Students will learn to identify note names in different keys while thinking about them aurally as well as standard practices of describing written music.
