Welcome to Our School

Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Students,

My name is Paul Baker, principal of Bunker Hill Elementary School. I get so excited when I think about students coming back and entering our hallways at Bunker Hill again for another school year! We have amazing students who come from amazing families and live in an amazing community! The Bunker Hill community feels so much like family! In fact, we ARE family!

I am entering my fourteenth year as an educator. I was a school counselor for most of those years. I started my career as an administrator three years ago at Martinsburg South Middle School, where I served as an assistant principal focusing on attendance, homebound instruction, home school, and transition school services. Two years ago, I started as principal at Bunker Hill Elementary School. I am excited to be entering my third year as principal here at such an outstanding school!

I love children. I have been married to my wife for nearly 28 years. We have four children ages 26, 25, 21 (the only son), and 18. And, you guessed it! My wife and I are now empty nesters, with our last child heading to college this school year. The oldest is teaching English at a high school in Thailand. The other two adults are in college. We value education in our household. Yet, we know that the foundation for educational success takes place in pre-K through second grade. I began my time as a principal emphasizing that, as educators, we must always remember that we teach people—living, breathing, and loving people. We are in the business of educating human beings and growing individuals. We do not go to college just to learn to teach a certain subject or a certain grade; we go to college to learn how to educate and engage real people. Therefore, my major time investment as the principal of Bunker Hill Elementary School will go towards building alliances and relationships that will help us better understand the students and families that we serve and create the safest and most supportive learning environment imaginable. This will help us witness teaching and learning at its best.

One of my joys of being a principal is being able to witness the growth and maturity of students as they begin and continue their educational journeys from elementary to high school and beyond. My hope is that I am around long enough to see students go from Bunker Hill to Mill Creek, to Musselman Middle and Musselman High School, and then on to pursue their careers and start their families. I look forward to being able to then look back and know that their education all started at Bunker Hill. Such an experience is truly my aspiration, desire and goal.

Best regards,

Paul Baker, Principal
